Boost for Glenavy River project

GLENAVY village will be getting a boost as part of the Village Renewal NI Rural Development Programme.

Lisburn City Council has agreed to provide funding to help with the development of a riverside walkway and angling facilities along the Glenavy River.

Lisburn City Council has agreed to provide a financial contribution to deliver walking and angling facilities in the centre of Glenavy Village.

The project is being promoted by the Glenavy Conservation and District Angling Club. The Club is hoping to secure the remainder of the budget needed from the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 through the Lagan Rural Partnership. .

Lagan Rural Partnership is the delivery body for the ‘Rural Life’ axis of the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme Fund 2007-2013.

The project plan is the development of a riverside area adjacent to the Glenaiden Youth Centre in the heart of the village. The plan includes the installation of a short pathway and fishing platforms in order to provide improved access to the river.

The funding application is currently under consideration by the Lagan Rural Partnership.
