Bands and brethren get ready for the Twelfth celebrations

This will be the first time the village has hosted the event since 2007 and thousands are expected to flock to the 324th South Antrim celebration of the Battle of the Boyne.

Grand Secretary of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, Drew Nelson, will be the guest speaker at the South Antrim Combine demonstration.

A total of seven districts – totalling approximately 70 individual lodges - will participate in the parade, led by Ballinderry and followed by Derriaghy, Lisburn, Hillsborough, Aghalee, Glenavy and Magheragall.

Upwards of 50 bands will partake in the carnival occasion.

The main parade will be headed by local flute band, Roses Lane Ends, who are over 100 years old.

The event is scheduled to get under way at 11.30am, with the parade commencing from the starting point of Tansy Road, proceeding along the two mile route via Airport Road, through the village, and onto the demonstration field on the Lower Ballinderry Road.

The platform proceedings will commence at 2pm and following the speeches there will be displays of Scottish piping and Lambeg drumming.

The ‘Cairns Culbert Memorial Cup’ will be awarded during the platform proceedings, to the best presented lodge at the South Antrim Combine parade.

The return parade is due to commence at 4.30pm and lodges and bands are asked to be at their designated points by 4pm.

The day promises to be a family occasion because there will also be a children’s fun day being held in the demonstration field from 11.30am.

Prior to the main parade, Ballinderry District will hold a short service in Ballinderry Church car park.
