Libraries NI Board approved the proposed policy for library opening hours

Local libraries will have changes to their opening hours, with Lisburn City Library changing from 57 hours a week in 2014 to 50 hours a week.

Moira Library will have an increase in its opening hours from 18 to 25 hours a week. Finaghy Library will also see an increase in hours from 48 to 50 hours a week.

Opening hours at Crumlin Library and Colin Glen Library will remain the same.

Libraries NI held a public consultation on the proposed Opening Hours Policy and proposals and was pleased to receive almost 4,000 responses.

Irene Knox, Chief Executive of Libraries NI, said: “We recognise that the review of library opening hours is difficult for our customers and our staff and we would like to thank everyone who has engaged with us during this process. Current library opening hours will remain unchanged until there has been a further period of engagement with customers regarding the actual pattern of opening hours in every library.”

This further period of consultation will take place from Monday 18 May until Saturday 13 June and the resulting opening hours’ pattern will be implemented in October 2015.
