Lisburn girl gets into the swing for October Runher

CURRENT Runher 10K champion, Cathy McCourt from Lisburn is encouraging local women to enter this year’s race.

Cathy, a personal fitness instructor, said: “I’m a regular competitor at the Runher event and just love the fact that it’s an all women race.

“There’s no need to feel intimidated and it’s brilliant that so many women of all ages join together and just enjoy the buzz and the challenge. The atmosphere is fabulous and the fact that Runher raises money for charity, Cash for Kids makes all the effort really worthwhile.”

Online entry costs £15 until Friday September 30 and thereafter £17 with online entry closing on Wednesday October 5.

Race director Michael Jenkins, owner of event organising retail outlet, Up and Running stressed the fun side of Runher. “It’s a great day out, the camaraderie and support is super and we encourage all women to come along and have a go. For first timers there’s plenty of choice in the level of challenge they would like to tackle. Choose a gentle 5k stroll, a 10k walk, jog or run 5k or 10k and take in the beautiful and historic surroundings of Stormont.”

In a bid to encourage even more women to take up running, organisers are also seeking Runher ‘Champions’ to sign up 10 like-minded runners or walkers. Each champion will receive a special goody bag worth £80.

All would-be champions should email [email protected] with their contact details and include a full contact list of their 10 co-walkers or runners. Potential entrants are also invited to take part in a special free training session at Ormeau Park, Belfast on Saturday September 17 at 11am to help them gear up for race day on Sunday October 9.
