Derry’s Mary survives celebrity chef challenge

This is the Derry student who this week took part in a live battle of food related challenges.

Mary Quigley from St Cecilia’s College cooked in front of celebrity chef James Martin battling it out against four other sixth form students from across Northern Ireland picking up the 6th Form Survivor finalist award.

The live final was a culmination of an online quiz and entry question in January to win a place in the final with all entrants receiving a Clockwork Orange voucher. The finalists took part in challenges including an omelette challenge and a James Martin copy cat challenge. All the finalists received a bespoke trophy for reaching the final.

Host of the 6th Form Survivor Final, James Martin, comments: “This is a fantastic way of getting teenagers who are leaving home to learn about what type of food they should be eating and how to cook and develop their own recipes. Judging by the talent at the final I have no doubt there are lot of budding young chefs in Northern Ireland.”

Elaine Donaghy, Communications Manager, Food Standards Agency Northern Ireland comments: “The ‘6th Form Survivor Challenge’ has been a great success.”
