The Lisburn Primary and Community Care Centre will provide space for seven GP practices currently located in Lisburn health centre.

The 12,792sqm medical centre will offer other health services, including diagnostics and outpatient clinics all under one roof.

And the new hub is expected to be opened to patients ‘in the autumn or winter’ this year according to Alliance councillor Sorcha Eastwood.

The South Eastern Health Trust awarded the contract for the centre to GPG O’Hare, with the project set to be a major economic boost for the Lisburn region creating 250 jobs.

Cllr Eastwood said the centre would prove ‘a real asset’ for the city of Lisburn.

“It is great to hear that the works on the Lisburn Primary & Community Care Centre are progressing with a view to welcoming patients this autumn or winter,” she said.

“Your health is so important and as we emerge from Covid, transforming our health service to deliver better health outcomes for our community not just in Lagan Valley but right across Northern Ireland, will be more important than ever.

“This new hub for primary and community care services will enable those better outcomes to be achieved.

“It will feature treatment room suites with modern minor procedures rooms, a children’s services centre, specialist dentistry, podiatry and orthoptics services, adult mental health services and addiction services.

“This will be a real asset to our community and I look forward to its completion.”

The South Eastern Trust said that the “site was progressing well and is currently in the final stages of construction”.

A spokesperson said: “Once complete this will enable greater management of chronic conditions in the community and closer to patients’ homes through the co-location and integration of GP Practices with multi-disciplinary South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust teams in a functionally suitable building.

“It will also provide increased integration with Primary and Secondary Care Services provided from Lagan Valley Hospital.”
