Lambeg Brownies raise £750 for RAMS Space Buddy appeal

FIRST Lambeg Brownies and Cubs jumped at the chance to help RAMS with their Space Buddy Appeal.

The group raised £750 through fitness and gymnastics events and their money will go towards helping RAMS purchase three space hoods for children at their Therapy Centre at the Cutts in Dunmurry.

Race Against Multiple Sclerosis (RAMS) launched its Space Buddy Appeal earlier this year to help raise funds for children with Cerebral Palsy and brain injuries.

Their therapy centre can help those children who often have difficulty walking, talking, eating, writing and dressing many of which have problems with balance and coordination, visual difficulties and hearing problems.

Billy Joe Beck from RAMS said: “There is no cure for these conditions but Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) can help to improve a child’s posture, mobility, muscle development, speech, vision, intellectual development and their ability to toilet, feed and dress themselves.

“Every child having Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at RAMS, requires a special ‘space hood’ to help them breathe. These are costly pieces of equipment.

“Each hood costs around £250. RAMS launched the Space Buddy Appeal to raise £5,000 over the next year to help transform the lives of 20 children with cerebral palsy and brain injuries in Northern Ireland.”
