The event recognises the sterling achievements of parent teacher associations throughout Northern Ireland rewarding fundraising innovation, good practice, parental involvement and community spirit across a number of categories, as part of the national PTA-UK Gold Star Awards scheme.

Harmony Hill Primary School PTA was named as the winner for Northern Ireland in the PTA Fundraising Achievement category, for the Harmony Hill Car Show.

Representatives from the school and PTA, Paula Johnston and Sarah Clarke, accompanied by pupils Joshua Clarke and Cooper Gamble, received a cheque for £500 from Michelle and Wendy Osborne, Chief Spacious grounds, a hugely enthusiastic PTA and an innovative idea from parent Chris Gamble resulted in the first ever Harmony Hill Car Show. The PTA quickly realised the enormous potential for this event when over 240 cars booked to attend. The categories included Best Interior and Exterior, Best Modified Car, Best Engine Bay and best Show and Shine. To boost profits this industrious PTA ran a BBQ, coffee bar and tuck shop which contributed towards the day’s profits of £3,140, of which the PTA donated £1,200 to local charities.

Harmony Hill PTA will now join winners from Wales and England at the PTA-UK Gold Star Award national finals, which are being held on Wednesday, June 12, on HMS Belfast in central London, when the overall category winner will be announced.
