MLA slams delay in convening the High Street Taskforce
SDLP Business Spokesperson and Lagan Valley MLA Pat Catney has slammed what he described as ‘an outrageous delay’ in bringing together experts to help inform the Executive’s plans to support the High Street.
The High Street Taskforce was first announced in August 2020 and has met for the first time on February 24.
“It is extraordinary to me that it has taken the Junior Ministers six months to bring together experts in retail, hospitality and business to advise them on how the Executive can support the High Street,” said Mr Catney. “The people on the task force are well respected industry representatives and leaders. I have no doubt that they will make a significant positive contribution to these discussions.
“I can tell you, any business person who waited six months to address major problems wouldn’t be in business for very long. We need to up the intensity on this work and scale up our ambition for government.”
