Ulster Orchestra helps city celebrate milestone

THE Ulster Orchestra, Northern Ireland’s only professional symphony orchestra, will be in town this Sunday (October 2) to help celebrate the Island Arts Centre’s 10th Anniversary with a special celebration concert with one of the UK’s great virtuoso violinists.

Celebrating 45 years of music making this year, the Ulster Orchestra returns to Lisburn with an all-Beethoven concert which includes his Pastoral Symphony and Violin Concerto, played by the Classical Brit Award-winner, Jack Liebeck.

“We play at venues across Northern Ireland and it will be great to be back in Lisburn as we are really looking forward to Sunday’s concert, especially since it is the Island Centre’s 10th anniversary,” said Lydia Gamble, the Ulster Orchestra’s Head of Marketing and Development.

London-born Jack Liebeck has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras and is one of the 40 soloists who will be performing with the Ulster Orchestra during its 2011-2012 Season. He is also the featured as soloist on the soundtrack of Jane Eyre, which is currently on release in cinemas across the UK and Ireland.

A popular soloist with concert-goers, Jack Liebeck will be playing the ‘Ex-Wilhelmj’ J.B. Guadagnini, his violin which was made in 1785, 21 years before Beethoven wrote his Violin Concerto, a piece that has long been a main stay of the classical repertoire.

Conducted by David Stern, tickets for the October 2 concert are still available from the Island Arts Centre on 028 9250 9254 or online at www.islandartscentre.com.
