Brian will tread the boards at the Grand Opera House

New Lyric never fails to provide a professional standard of productions accompanied by the Company’s orchestra however the chosen fiddler will need a head for heights to fulfil the show’s namesake as they will be taking centre stage at the Grand Opera House from Tuesday November 13–17.

Fiddler on the Roof centres around the life of a poor Jewish milkman, Tevye and his attempts to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions. He must cope with both the strong-willed actions of his three eldest daughters - each one’s choice of husband moves further away from the customs of their faith - and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village.

Brian, who has in the past performed leading roles with Lisburn’s own operatic company, Lisnagarvey, will be taking on the challenging pivotal role of Tevye and he is looking forward to his return performance with New Lyric.

“I have played two of the three suitors before in different productions,” explained Brian, “both the Russian Fyedka and the poor tailor Motel.

“I thought I was still a little young for the pivotal role of Teyve, made famous by actor Topol, but then after growing a beard which is showing more grey than black I realised it may be about time,” he added.
