The Subways start their tour with a bang in Belfast

THE Subways will start their new Spring tour with a bang when they play at the Limelight in Belfast at the end of this month.

The band, who are due to release their new single ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’ in May, will be playing the Belfast venue on April 27, at the start of a new tour to promote their latest album ‘Money and Celebrity’.

The track is already receiving a fantastic fan reaction both online and at shows. Singer Billy Lunn penned the track around a ‘fiery relationship’, the ‘ongoing battle between two lovers’. Its fast pace and infectious chorus are sure to create a dance floor crush at clubs.

Billy, who is thrilled to be on the road again, is looking forward to the Belfast show.

“Anyone who complains to me about being in a band or being on tour, I switch off to them. This is the greatest thing in the world!”

The Welwyn Garden City trio - Billy Lunn, Charlotte Cooper and Josh Morgan - started at the tender age of just 15. “We were bored living in Hertfordshire,” explained Billy. “There wasn’t really very much to do so we started playing in a band.

“My dad had an old guitar and I taught myself to play by watching Jimi Hendrix. I spent every waking second learning all of my favourite songs. I started writing my own material, my brother got into playing the drums and got my then girlfriend Charlotte to play the bass. We just started writing our own material and after a couple of years we got scouted by record labels and got a slot to play at Glastonbury.

“We played in front of 10,000 people. I can’t even remember being on stage, I was so nervous. After that we quit our jobs and went straight out on tour.”

And the band have been touring and recording ever since, much to the delight of their fans.

After signing to Warner Brothers, the band recorded and released their second album in 2007. They released their third album ‘Money and Celebrity’ last year and have had a great response to their latest offering.

Despite the hectic year ahead, and coming off the back of a European tour, Billy and the band are delighted to be setting off around the UK and Ireland and are looking forward to making a welcome return to Belfast.

“The last time we were over in Belfast was for a T4 show. It was probably one of the most fun gigs we have ever played. We are really looking forward to coming over,” Billy added.

The Subways play the Limelight on April 27 and tickets are on sale now from all usual outlets.
