Taylor Swift enchants her Belfast fans

“I’LL love you forever,” Taylor Swift told her “new closest friends” in Belfast last Friday night when she arrived for her first visit to the city; and from the reaction of her fans, it seems they love the country-pop star too.

The four-time Grammy Award winner thrilled fans at a sold out Odyssey Arena, who danced and sang along with every word, holding banners aloft and wearing Taylor’s signature ‘13’ on their hands.

Still only 21, Taylor Swift has taken the music world by storm, winning almost one hundred awards in her short career, including the infamous VMA award for Best Video which was gate-crashed by a certain rapper.

Incredibly talented, the singer-songwriter plays a variety of instruments including guitar, piano and even the ukulele, displaying vocals that would leave her contemporaries far behind her.

Refreshingly open and honest, Swift took time to speak to her audience, telling them how she writes about “love and terrible break-up’s” and that “whether you are from Nashville, Tennessee or Belfast”, the feelings were all the same.

Arriving on stage in a blaze of gold in a shimmering dress, the blonde beauty got the night underway with ‘Sparks Fly’, a track from her latest album Speak Now, before launching into ‘Mine’ and ‘The Story of Us’.

Slowing things down, Taylor took to the piano to perform her new single ‘Back to December’, a beautiful ballad that had the audience singing along with every word.

Every attention to detail was taken into consideration for the show, with beautiful backdrops displaying images associated with the songs, whether it was fireworks, falling snow, or transforming the star into a 1950s tv star for the quirky ‘Speak Now’, after Taylor had rocked out to ‘Better Than Revenge’.

Taking to a stage at the back of the room, Taylor performed tracks from her second album ‘Fearless’, including the title track itself, ‘Fifteen’ and You Belong With Me’, one of the most popular songs of the night.

Slowing things down with ‘Dear John’ and ‘Enchanted’, before closing the night with ‘Long Live’, there was just time for an encore of the worldwide smash-hit ‘Love Story’, which all but raised the roof of the arena.

There is no doubt that Belfast certainly was ‘enchanted’ to meet Taylor Swift.
