Spend a night with George

THE producers who brought you Women on the Verge of HRT and The History of The Troubles (accordin' to my Da) have teamed up with Brassneck Theatre Company to bring you 'A Night with George' at Belfast's Grand Opera House from Monday September 13 until Saturday September 18.

'A Night With George' is a powerful and provocative new drama, which takes the audience on a roller-coaster ride of Bridie Murphy's life.

Not every woman gets to spend a night with George Clooney, but Bridie Murphy does! Let's face it, Bridie's life hasn't been all parties and premieres like George's, but it's a life full of drama nonetheless. Over the course of one evening, she takes George on the journey of her life. From the terrible lows to the hilarious highs, and charts the course to her unlikely future.

"The show is an absolute riot," explained Donna O'Connor, who steps into the role of Bridie Murphy.

"The Troubles provide a backdrop to the story but they are certainly not integral. It is about a woman's life and how she reacts to adversity.

"After a boozy night out Bridie steals a cardboard cut out of George Clooney and regales him with stories of her life.

"Bridie is an everywoman. Audiences will really identify with her, everyone knows a Bridie. She is very loud and opinionated but there is a real soft character there as well. She uses humour throughout and doesn't wallow in self pity."

Rehearsals for the show are going well and Donna is eager to bring Bridie to life on the stage of the Grand Opera House.

"People should expect to leave the theatre feeling as though they've had a great night out. They will have had a good laugh!"

This one woman show was the major success story of File An Phobail 2009, completely selling out over the entire run.

Following the huge success of A Night with George at File and the subsequent 12 date tour of Northern Ireland, the production previewed at St. Kevin's Hall on Saturday September 4 and will run for a week at Belfast's Grand Opera House from September 13-18 with performances daily at 8pm and on Saturday at 5pm.
