Shop for the perfect life with Ailish at the Island

FOLLOWING four sell-out tours of Ireland 'Life Shop Til You Drop' will make its first visit to Lisburn when it takes to the stage of the Island Arts Centre in Lisburn on Friday night (October 1).

This wickedly funny satire has been a huge hit with audiences across the country and was a sell-out at Belfast's Out to Lunch Festival.

'Life Shop Til You Drop' sees Ailish, a recruitment consultant, help the audience to find love and happiness through her 'sassy girl's self-help solution'.

Our heroine Ailish is out to get her dream man, dream job and dream life, by literally following the mantras of self-help gurus.

After hitting her self-help books hard, she joins an expensive dating agency, re-imagines her childhood, goes speed dating and gives her apartment the feng shui treatment to attract love into her life.

Writer/Director Alice Coghlan explained: "Alish is single and alone. Her father has just died and her mother decides Ailish should be married as soon as possible so she gives her a pile of self help booksand Ailish quickly becomes a self help junkie.

"It is a satire on self-help and asks what would happen if you did everything self help books told you to do.

"At the start of the show Ailish has just been named 'Irish Tatler Woman of the Year' in the self help category and she then tries to help the audience with their lives. She is like a motivational speaker for the audience.

"It is a very funny show, although it does have darker themes as well," continued Alice.

"I would never admit to being like Ailish but there are some aspects , such as her vulnerability, that I share. And I used to go into bookshops to read the self help books because I was too embarrassed to ever buy them."

'Life Shop Til You Drop' promises to be a great, girlie night out, although Alice admits one or two men have ventured to see the show as well.

"We were in Limerick recently and a group of men turned up in their wellie boots. I think they enjoyed the show but usuall it is groups of women all dressed up for a night out," she added.

Alice is looking forward to bringing the show to Lisburn and is hoping the local audience will bring along their 'Northern Ireland sense of humour' and enjoy a good night out.
