Mayor promotes St Andrew’s concert

THE Mayor, Alderman William Leathem, has announced details of a forthcoming St Andrew’s Showcase Concert, which will take place on Wednesday, November 28, at Lagan Valley Island.

The event will begin at 8pm and admission is free of charge. On arrival Magheragall Pipe Band will perform and the concert will include performances by traditional Ulster-Scots groups Stonewall and Session Beat. Ulster-Scots Dancers will also be performing.

Stonewall is a five-piece band from County Armagh. The group has performed at a number of music festivals, concerts and corporate functions all over Northern Ireland, in the Republic of Ireland and in the USA. They perform a wide variety of Ulster-Scots music and song.

Session Beat is an alternative sound in Ulster-Scots music and brings together a mix of traditional Scottish and Irish music, played with a contemporary twist. Session Beat play a wide range of instruments including flutes, bagpipes, whistles, guitars, bouzouki, drums and bodhrán, with vocals added into the mix.

The Mayor said: “I am delighted to host this forthcoming event in partnership with the Ulster-Scots Agency and I hope it will prove very popular with residents. It would be fantastic to see the Island Hall packed to capacity as we hold our first-ever St Andrew’s Concert. Admission is free; however attendees will be invited to make a voluntary donation on the evening with all monies going to my charity, Stepping Stones, who carry out such important and vital work in the community with custom-designed training programmes, delivered to young adults with a disability or learning disability.”

Chief Executive of the Ulster-Scots Agency, Ian Crozier said: “The Agency is pleased to be working with Lisburn City Council in organising the first-ever St Andrew’s Concert in the area. We hope that lots of people will come along to our free concert and that it will be a highly enjoyable evening for all.

“If you enjoy traditional Ulster-Scots music and a bit of craic, you don’t want to miss our St Andrew’s Showcase Concert.”

Tickets are available by telephoning Lagan Valley Island’s box office on 9250 9254 or by booking online on www.tickets.lisburncity.gov.uk.
