Lea is theW-I-N-N-E-R of Spelling Bee

A POND Park Primary schoolgirl has beaten pupils from 20 other schools to be crowned the Ulster Eason Spelling Bee 2012 for County Antrim.

Lea Carson (P7) won the heat, which was held at the school last week, and was presented with £50 worth of books for herself. She will now be invited to attend the Ulster final in June with the winner heading to the all-Ireland final in Dublin on June 22 to battle it out to be crowned the ‘Eason Spelling Bee 2012’.

Other entrants won a book for taking part in the competition.

Pupils from primary schools across Antrim took part in the “County Bee” including Acorn Integrated Primary School, Carrickfergus; Anahorish Primary School, Toomebridge; Ballygolan Primary, Newtownabbey; Botanic Primary, Belfast; Brownlee Primary School, Lisburn; Carnalridge Primary, Portrush; Fairview Primary School, Ballyclare; Harryville Primary School, Ballymena; Olderfleet Primary School, Larne; Pond Park Primary School, Lisburn; Riverdale Primary School, Legacurry; Silverstream Primary School, Greenisland; St. Anne’s Primary School, Corkey; St. Colmcille’s Primary School, Ballymena; St. Ita’s Primary School, Belfast; Whitehouse P.S. and Nursery Unit, Co. Antrim; St Bride’s Primary School, Belfast.

The Ulster Eason Spelling Bee 2012 is aimed at promoting child literacy and is a fun way of getting children interested in an area that is vital to their education and overall development.

Throughout April and May P7 primary school children from across Northern Ireland are taking part in the Ulster Eason Spelling Bee 2012 which has an overall prize fund of books worth more than £16,000.
