Get your granny online on Silver Surfers’ Day

PEOPLE over 50 are being invited to join in Silver Surfers’ Day on Friday, May 18. Over 200 friendly volunteers have now signed up and are ready to help. Hundreds of people have booked their place but a few more slots are still available including in Lisburn City Library.

Organised by Business in the Community in partnership with the Department of Finance and Personnel and Libraries NI, business volunteers will be on hand to help and provide invaluable advice to those wishing to get to grips with technology and surf the internet with free training.

Finance Minister, Sammy Wilson said: “I would encourage everyone over 50 to book their place and come along and join in the fun on Friday, May 18.

“My department has been running this event for seven years now, helping Silver Surfers to set up an e-mail account, send e-mails, bank online, access government services through the nidirect website, shop and much, much more. We want to get as many people as possible online and this event is a really effective way of engaging and encouraging those who may feel less comfortable using the internet.
