Building on the technical education he received at Lisburn Tech, Hugh began a career in mechanical engineering with Mackies, a well known textile machine design and manufacturing company.

Here he remained for 49 years, progressing from machine operator to Machine Shops Manager, a position he held until Mackies closed in 2001.

Hugh accepted Jesus as his Saviour at six years of age and during his Christian walk, he has been a member of Crumlin Presbyterian Church.

Later in life he would serve on their committee, then as church elder, and then as clerk of session.

He presently continues as an elder.

It is from this spiritual foundation that he opens that portion of the word of God, that many Christians seek to avoid: The prophetic chapters of Daniel and Revelation.

“If you have read or indeed studied these chapters and believe you know something about the prophecy in these two books, here is a riddle that will test your understanding,” said Hugh.

“This calls for a mind with wisdom. The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits. They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for a little while. The beast who once was, and now is not, is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction (Revelation 17:9 - 11).

“In this day and age that we live, nothing maybe more important than to understand the wealth of wisdom that God laid up in the books of Daniel and Revelation.

“Within those two books are hidden mysteries of God’s greatness, His return, and the last fight between good and evil, as the evil one is encaged.

“There cannot be more than a handful of people who would claim that the Revelation of John is easy to understand.

“The last book in the Bible provokes many reactions, ranging between extremes of opinion. The Bible being God’s word to mankind, why should any Biblical book be beyond human understanding?”

In the book Hugh then goes on to link and open up scriptural writings into a vivid picture of the extreme happenings at the End of the Age.

Hugh has spent numerous years enriching himself with an understanding of the comparisons between these two Biblical books and brings to the forefront just how easy it is to understand what God has written.

‘The Riddle of the Kings’ is not a commentary, but in a unique way combines the prophetic chapters of the book of Daniel and of Revelation to give a simple clear understanding of the Revelation given to the apostle John. And it leads you step by step to solve the riddle that tests your knowledge of this most challenging book.
