Award-winning local pianist to play in Lisburn

AWARD-winning young Belfast pianist Michael McHale will bring his beautiful, colourful and awe-inspiring music to audiences in Lisburn when he performs at Island Arts Centre on Friday April 23 at 8pm.

Despite being only 26 years old, Michael McHale has established himself as one of the leading Irish pianists of his generation, gaining international repute for his performances of both classical repertoire and new music.

In 2009, Michael won the prestigious Terence Judd/Hall Award and his forthcoming performance in Lisburn is perfect preparation for his solo recital dbut in the Wigmore Hall, London in June 2010.

Boasting a busy career as a solo recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician, Michael has performed throughout the UK, Ireland, Europe and USA, with highlights including critically acclaimed dbut recitals in Washington DC and the National Concert Hall, Dublin and four performances on Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos, with Barry Douglas and Camerata Ireland.

Last year, Michael had the honour of performing Rachmaninov's Paganini Rhapsody with the Ulster Orchestra at a concert celebrating the re-opening of the Ulster Hall Belfast, a performance that was broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

During his recital in Lisburn, Michael will perform pieces by Mozart, Ian Wilson, Liszt, Bhrams and Rachmaninov.
