An evening of classical music

THE Studio Symphony Orchestra will be performing in Lisburn once again this month when they return to the Island Arts Centre on Saturday May 26 at 8pm.

In an age of digital developments, Studio Symphony Orchestra is a reminder that classical melodies sound more sensuous when plucked, blared and strummed vivaciously by a full orchestra pit of musicians who just live to play music. It is after all how the great musical masters intended their compositions to be played and heard.

The outsized acoustical impact of the brilliant Studio Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Openshaw in the intimate Island Hall will give you goose bumps. Performances range from the tranquil charm of Delius in The Walk to the Paradise Garden to the thrill and drama of Wagner’s music in The Flying Dutchman.

In this concert, Studio Symphony’s principal horn Jim Whatsize will perform Mozart’s beautiful Horn Concerto No.1, and there will be the premiere of a charming new work by local composer Jennifer Bell, featuring the clarinettist Gillian McCutcheon. The concert will conclude with the Suite from Tchaikovsky’s ballet Sleeping Beauty – certain to bring the evening to a rousing climax.

Tickets, priced £13/10, are on sale now from the Box Office on 9250 9254 or online at www.islandartscentre.com.
