A day in the life of an IT expert for Power NI

James Curran, who lives in Dromara with his wife Jennifer, is an IT expert for Power NI and currently features in the company’s ‘People Behind the Power’ campaign. In the advert he is shown preparing for one of the most popular events in the sporting calendar – the ‘Giant Causeway Sportive’ cycling challenge around the iconic North Coast. He joins three other Power NI colleagues in acting out their stories of life inside and outside the Power NI working environment.

I leave my house at 7.20am and it normally takes me about 40 minutes to get to the office in Belfast. The first thing that I do is catch up on emails before planning the work ahead for the day.

My role covers a wide range of activities – providing IT support within Power NI, liaising with our external IT Service Provider (Capita) and managing various projects across Power NI. Occasionally I have to visit our contact centre sites in Omagh and Antrim too.

Recently I was asked to take part in the firm’s marketing campaign which combines TV, outdoor, digital, PR and traditional marketing methods highlighting how Power NI’s team of local experts are on hand to help domestic and business customers make savings on their energy bills throughout the year.

My role in the campaign involves me talking about Power NI’s paperless billing service, Energy Online, which enables home owners to save money each year as well as monitor and control how much energy they use and compare their usage to similar homes.

I think it’s great that Power NI asked their staff to star in the new marketing campaign because it gives people a chance to see how rewarding and enjoyable it can be working for one of Northern Ireland’s longest-established companies.

The advertisements take viewers into the daily lives of real Power NI employees and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of my typical day being filmed.

The campaign demonstrates that Power NI is the natural choice for local consumers as people like me not only live and work here but they are experts in their field and are best placed to understand consumers’ needs and help meet them through the provision of great products and services.

Power NI is a great place to work and I really do enjoy the challenge each day provides. The team environment is great and my role provides me with a lot of job satisfaction.
