Lauren Molloy, who is a relative newcomer to the Lisburn stage, is getting ready for the biggest performance of her life.

Lauren is taking on the challenging role of ‘Charity’ in Lisnagarvey Operatic Society’s upcoming production of the hit musical ‘Sweet Charity’.

Lauren, who teaches in North Belfast, joined the Lisburn musical society two years ago and was thrown in at the deep end when she stepped into the shoes of panto princess just one week before the curtain went up.

Her baptism of fire didn’t put her off though and she returned to the stage with Lisnagarvey Operatic in last year’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

The 27 year old is now delighted to be taking on the lead role in Sweet Charity.

The show is to be staged in the Island Hall at the beginning of April.

“I am a singer songwriter but I haven’t been in a musical since I was at school,” explained Lauren.

“I love musical theatre and someone suggested joining Lisnagarvey and I am so glad that I did. Everyone was so welcoming and we are like a family.”

Lauren was shocked but delighted when she found out she had landed the lead role in the upcoming show and has been hard at work learning every aspect of her complex character.

“I never dreamed I would get the part,” continued Lauren. “I couldn’t believe it. I went into blind panic because I have so many lines and so much to learn.

“It is a very big part and I just hope I do it justice.

“It is a very interesting role. She’s very hopeful and the most optimistic person in the world. She has great comedic value and is completely useless at relationships but she has such a positive outlook on life.”

Lauren is joined on stage by some familiar faces, including Rea Campbell, who plays shy, neurotic accountant love interest Oscar Lindquist.

Tickets for Sweet Charity, which runs from April 12 until April 16, are on sale now from the Box Office on 028 9250 9254 or online at www.laganvalleyisland.co.uk,
