One of Lisburn’s longest established youth musical theatre companies is on the look-out for new talent.

If you’re aged 10-18 and interested in the chance to perform on stage in your favourite musicals, you need look no further - Lisnagarvey Youth Society will be back this year for another summer workshop production and it’s looking for you.

The society is the Junior branch of the award-winning local musical theatre company Lisnagarvey Operatic and Dramatic Society, which just finished its run of ‘Sweet Charity’ in Lisburn’s Island Hall.

LYS was formed in 1993 by Geoffrey Cherry and Gillian Jones to showcase young local talent and has become a platform for many young people who have gone on to pursue a career in the performing arts industry.

Although some of the young people intend to pursue performing as a career there are a large number who take part just for fun.

A spokesperson said: “The summer workshop atmosphere is a great physical and social outlet for the young people, who make lasting relationships with their fellow cast members and can’t help returning year after year.”

This year got off to a good start for the company, which was nominated for a National Operatic and Drama Association award for best youth show with its 2015 production of ‘High School Musical- On Stage’ and it hopes to continue its success with its next production.

The 2016 production will be the smash hit musical ‘Joseph and the Amazing technicolor Dreamcoat’ by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

With Direction by Andrew Devonshire and musical direction by Geoffrey Cherry, the show is being billed as an exciting and vibrant re-telling of the Bible story so many know and love.

Returning as the company choreographers, Michelle Chambers and Rea Campbell have promised to put the young people through their paces with some new dance moves as always.

Registration for the 2016 summer workshop and performance of Joseph will open soon. If you think your child might be interested in joining the cast, email Gillian McQuade at gill.garvey@outlook.com with your child’s name, date of birth and your contact details.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will run at the Island Hall from September 1-3.
