A local community festival is back with a bang once again this year with a bumper programme of events for children, young people and families in the Colin area.

The Colin Summer Festival, organised by Colin Neighbourhood Partnership (CNP), runs from Monday August 4 until Saturday August 9 and will see lots of free community events taking place in various venues throughout the area.

The highlight of the programme is undoubtedly the Colin Carnival Parade and Fun Day on Thursday August 7. This colourful spectacle sees residents, families and youth groups get dressed up in fancy dress and strut their stuff up the Stewartstown Road amidst music, carnival floats, bubbles and bunting. Last year hundreds of people joined the parade and this year Colin Neighbourhood Partnership is urging everyone in the community to get involved so it will become the biggest parade yet. Everyone is invited to meet at St Luke’s Church car park in Twinbrook and the parade will make its way up the Stewartstown Road at 12.45pm.

The parade will head to Colin Neighbourhood Partnership’s grounds at Cloona House in Poleglass for a free family fun day with bouncy castles, face painting, inflatables, go karting and entertainment for all the family. The Fun Day will also feature the Colin’s Got Talent Competition which sees budding musicians, comedians and dancers performing in front of a live audience on the lawns of Cloona House in order to win a prize.

Also on the programme is an All Ability Day of Sport in Brook Activity Centre in Twinbrook on Monday August 4 from 11am-4.00pm, and a Family Walk in Colin Glen Forest Park on Wednesday August 6 at 1.00pm.

For green-fingered foodies there will be a Cultural Food Day on Saturday August 9 at 1pm at the Colin Allotments as well as a number of BBQ Master Classes at Cloona House on Tuesday August 5.

There will also be a GAA Sports competition open to all GAA clubs, taking place at 11.00am in the Brook Activity Centre. On Monday August 4 there will be an opportunity to get keep your health and wellbeing in check when a Health Fair will visit the Dairy Farm from 11.00am to 2.30pm.
