Island Arts Centre’s Arts Activity Weeks are perfect for parents. They run from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Young people aged 4 to 16 years will join like-minded creatives to create, design and turn their ideas into action through group and solo projects.

Led by professional artists your child will explore, create and enjoy a host of arts activities.

Celebrating Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary in 2016, this year’s Arts Activity Weeks will Shake Up Shakespeare!

Weeks one and two are visual arts based where children will work with professional artists Grainne Kielty, Sally Young and Therese Gorman to create artworks for their own exhibition at Island Arts Centre.

A creative hive of activity, children will make sculptures, characters for a rogues’ gallery and a cartoon style Lisburn-upon-Lagan frieze.

Week three specialises in dance, drama and music to encourage and boost your child’s confidence and creativity. Sing, dance and act with professional artists Christina Nelson and Jazzmin McClure and end the week with a short performance for family to enjoy.

Parents have peace of mind too, knowing that Arts Weeks bring together a range of energetic professional artists and performers who specialise in working with children and young people.

Classes are grouped into small appropriate age bands and are individually tailored so that no two days are the same. Choose from one or more of our Arts Activity Weeks where each week is unique!

Island Community Arts is also bringing the Children’s Arts Festival to you.

They are offering ten community groups in the Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council area the opportunity to take part in this year’s Children’s Arts Festival. This is a perfect activity to bring the arts to your community or enhance a planned summer scheme.

Pick your play on the day; Romeo and Juliet, Midsummer Night’s Dream or Macbeth.

Your group will design and build a mini-puppet theatre, complete with puppets and backdrop.

Perform a scene from your chosen play which will be filmed and shown as part of the “Shake Up Shakespeare” festival exhibition in the Island Arts Centre. The stage you have created is yours to keep!

Available on a first-come-first-served basis all workshops will be arranged at a time to suit your group (subject to availability) and workshops can take place in your own community venue.
