FRESH from wowing crowds at the Island Arts Centre in Lisburn this week, Belfast four-piece Panama Kings are heading for the big time, with the music world heaping praise on band.
Having picked up the coveted JD Set Unsigned title in February and with praise being heaped on the band by Radio One DJ Zane Lowe, who has previously tipped the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs and Gnarls Barkley for success, things are defini
tely on the up for the guys.

Panama Kings.
Panama Kings.

Panama Kings are Niall (Vocals), Stuart (Guitar), Luke (Bass) and Ricky (Drums).

The group, who were formed and based in Belfast, began life as a respite for members of other successful Northern Irish acts and began writing and gigging towards the end of 2007, making a firm impression in double-quick time.

With a few simple goals to keep it fun, fresh and to create an indie-rock-dance-party suitable for clubs every bit as much as live shows, the band refuse to acknowledge any form of industry pressure and are resolute in their manifesto.

The guys released their latest single, Young Blood', which harps back to the punk/indie guitar scene in Belfast in the early 90's, this week.

With a unique sound that draws comparions to Modest Mouse, the time is right for the next big thing from Northern Ireland to make it in the charts.

The Panama Kings have already had a busy 2008; stealing the show at London's Beaconsfield Gallery when they became the overall winners of The JD Set Unsigned.

"The JD Set has a really great reputation, and has always involved amazing bands, so for the panel at The JD Set Unsigned to deem us a worthy winner is a huge compliment," they said.

Panama Kings will be playing at the Stiff Kitten on August 26.
