PUPILS from Friends’ Prep enjoyed an extremely successful day at the Ulster Minor Schools’ Swimming Championships, which took place at the Seven Towers Leisure Centre, Ballymena, on January 11.

Eleven pupils represented the Prep at this event, competing against pupils from all over the province.

Individual medal success was had by Oliver Chambers, a P7 pupil, in the Under 11 Age Group. Oliver finished in the silver position in the Freestyle event and won Gold in the Individual Medley.

Two pupils reached the finals of their individual events, but narrowly missed out on medals. Sasha Quinn, P5 made the finals of the Under 9 Breaststroke and finished in fifth place, while Conor Quinn, P7 was a finalist in the U11 Freestyle, finishing fourth.

All of these pupils, plus Anna Monteith, P6 and Oliver Kidd, P7 swam in times fast enough to qualify them for the Irish Schools’ Minor Swimming Championships, due to be held in Galway on 9 – 10 March.
