Patton the back for Kyle as he is top of the class

Girvan Gault, Bobby Watson, Alex Hanna and John Henry enjoy a round at Lisburn.

On Saturday he won the Law Trophy and followed up with success in the Junior Scratch Cup on Sunday. This resulted in his handicap being reduced from seven to five all in just two days.

Despite the blustery conditions interspersed with a few heavy showers, fourteen competitors had nett scores less than the par 72 in Saturday’s competition.

The Law Trophy is a flag competition with competitors using their full quota of strokes. Ian Shane (26) led the field with the best net score of 67. He had five strokes left so he continued playing down the first (19th). His third stroke found a watery grave in the pond to the right of the green. He dropped out under penalty and pitched into the greenside bunker.

Baby-faced assassin Kyle Patton, who did the double at Lisburn on Saturday and Sunday.

Peter Maxwell (13) was next with a net 68. His final stroke finished eight yards from the 19th flag. Six players finished on net 68: Martin McDonald (19), Matt Lyness (5), Maurice Markey (24), Ross Morrow (15) David Reid (9) and Kyle Patton (7).

Kyle’s pitched to three feet from the flag to win. Peter was second and David Reid was third as his final stroke finished ten yards from the flag. Matt Lyness was awarded the gross prize.

On Sunday, Kyle won the Junior Scratch Cup with a round of 76. He had two strokes to spare over Mark Reilly with Gary Doherty third on 80, but this time he didn’t have to go down the 19th.

Intermediate Scratch Cup: 1st Simon McMullen 82, 2nd Mark Coburn 87, 3rd Brian Houston 87 (on count-back).

Wednesday Stableford: 1st S.W. Johnston (18) 45 pts, 2nd Jack Shellard (11) 40 pts beating Darren Welsh (13) on count-back.

Boys Open Stroke: Gross scores: 1st Christian Kennedy 72, 2nd Benjamin Connolly 75.

Best nett: Jack Shellard (10) 68

Juvenile Competition: 1st Jason Tsoutsos 45 pts, 2nd Tom Glover 44 pts, 3rd Jack Shellard 42pts.

Lisburn overcame a five holes deficit from the first leg to defeat Banbridge in the Sam Rutherford competition.

Colin Hill and Chris Budd finished six up to set up the comeback victory. David and Mark Armstrong were one ahead after their round while Randal Kernaghan and Andrew Power were level. Martin Lilley and Rodney Osbourne were surprisingly defeated by two holes but that wasn’t to matter for the Lisburn team, who progress to the next round.
