Two in a row for Thirds

LISNAGARVEY Thirds travelled to Mossley for the second weekend in a row however this time they were taking on Mossley Seconds as opposed to their Thirds the previous week.

After picking up a narrow 2-1 win against Mossley Thirds Garvey knew they were in for a tough game. It was Garvey who came out of the blocks quicker and in the first ten minutes played some magnificent hockey and were well rewarded after Neal McKnight was on the end of a tidy short corner variation to put the Hillsborough side 1-0 up. Garvey’s extremely solid back four picked up a worry when left back Marty Bothwell picked up a knock and was ruled out for the rest of the game, however Ian Harbinson provided more than enough cover in the position. The rest of the first half was dominated by Garvey, however no clear cut opportunities were created for either side.

As the second half began it was the return of the experienced Pako Pim to the Garvey side that kept them in control of the game.

Mossley had their chances in the second half but were denied by a couple of great saves by Garvey’s shot stopper Graeme Shaw. With less than ten minutes on the clock Ian Harbinson put the game beyond doubt with a superb solo effort. Beginning with the ball at a long corner Harbinson carried it himself around 3 players before entering the D and slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

Mossley grabbed a goal of their own in the final minute of the game which in turn was no more than a consolation goal with only seconds left on the clock. Two wins on the bounce for Garvey Thirds and they will be hoping this form can continue for the weeks to come.
