LISBURN Golf Club’s Paula Grant escaped the snow and ice as she competed in the recent South American Open Amateur Golf Championships held at the El Rincon Golf Club in Bogota, Colombia from January 23 - 26.

Ireland were represented by four players, Paula and Jessica Carty for the ladies and Geoff Lenehan and Brian Casey for the men. In the ladies event Paula shot 77, 83, 78 and 75 for a total of 313 and a share of 9th place and finished the leading player from the British Isles. Paula explained: “The course was very difficult with loads of water, trees and firm fast greens which made it very difficult to stop the ball. This was a great experience for me and a great opportunity to get in some warm weather practice especially when the weather has been so bad at home.” Paula plans to play in a few university events before the main season gets underway in April.
