WITH the Ulster rugby team blazing a trail in the Heineken Cup, the draw has taken place for the 34th annual Nutty Krust Rugby Floodlit Tournament at Portadown RFC.

The tournament which kicks off on February 6, will see Under 19 players from 16 clubs compete every Wednesday evening at Chambers Park, Portadown. This year’s fixtures which were drawn by Robin Cole, President of Ulster Branch (IRFU) are sure to guarantee captivating viewing for all rugby supporters - including a first round match between Lisburn and Banbridge on Wednesday February 13.

Brian Irwin, President PRFC and executive chairman of the Tournament’s primary sponsor, Irwin’s Bakery, explains why being involved in grassroots sports is so important.

“We have been the primary sponsor of the Tournament since 1979 and it has been a delight to see its popularity grow year on year. This is the 34th year of the Tournament and we expect it to be as exciting and hard fought as ever. Irwin’s has supported grassroots sports development in Northern Ireland for many years and we feel it is important to help the players realise their potential and facilitate competitive opportunities for them to foster skills on the field.

“I would like to extend our thanks to the organisers and officials who dedicate their time to the tournament every week and encourage the whole family to come along to Chambers Park every Wednesday at 7.45pm and join in the fun!”
