Good scoring at Lisburn

THE mild weather with a slight breeze aided good scoring at Lisburn last Saturday.

The fairways had dried out considerably and the greens were in excellent condition offering few excuses for bad scores. Competitors had to play off three quarters of their official handicap.

Sam McCallister (26) was top scorer and a clear winner of Division 4. Four points from a birdie three at the fifth helped him towards 22 points. Ian Magill (21) was three points in arrears with Maurice Pinker (20) third on 18.

Andrew Gibb (14) was a clear winner of Division 3 with 21 points helped by a burst of four successive pars from the short fourth. He finished two points ahead of second placed Eddie Rowan (15) with Fred Walsh (14) third on 18.

There was a triple tie in Division 1 with Colin Reid (9), Allen Sayers (8) and Chris Budd (7) all scoring 20 points. Colin had a ‘ding’ at the second followed a bogey at the fourth. He completed the course in one under par to win on count back. Allen dropped strokes at the second and seventh in his round of 38. Chris failed to score at the eighth to finish in third place.

Graeme Kerr (11) and Darren Montgomery (11) topped Division 2 with 20 points. Despite a birdie three at the final hole, Darren lost out on count back. Four players finished with 19 points: Robin McCoosh, Mark Jamieson, David Mercer and Alan Faloon. Robin’s finish of six pars deservedly secured third place.
