Garvey ladies into next round of Irish Trophy

LISNAGARVEY LADIES FIRSTS 1 BALLYMENA 0

LISNAGARVEY Ladies Firsts progressed to the next round of the Irish Trophy with a 1-0 win against Ballymena.

This was the third meeting for both sides this season which unfolded to be another closely fought match. Throughout the first half Lisnagarvey had a handful of chances and a goal disallowed after a great finish by Sarah Colgan. The Ballymena keeper pulled off a number of great saves to keep Ballymena in the game. Tamilla Matchett and Nicola Mawhinney kept the pressure in the opposition’s half by putting in early tackles on any Ballymena counter attacks. In the second half Julie Doak, Jenna Flynn and Sophie McClean continued to give the Ballymena defence a hard time by making it difficult for them to get the ball out from the back.

With 15 minutes remaining Paige Brown worked the ball out of defence to Laura Murray who stormed down the right wing to the edge of the D creating a 1 on 1 with the Ballymena goalkeeper. Sarah Colgan waited patiently at the flick spot as Laura Murray proceeded to slip her the ball so she could slot it in to the goal securing the win for the home side.
