LADIES SENIOR LEAGUE 1

LISNAGARVEY L1S 2-0 NICS L1S

LISNAGARVEY went top of Senior 1 on Saturday after a comfortable 2-0 win over Civil Service. Despite dominating possession in the first ten minutes, it was Garvey’s counterparts who gained the first penalty corner. However, Civil Service could not capitalise and after a solid defensive display by Nicola Mawhinney Garvey soon began to attack.

Following sustained pressure on the Service circle, Jenna Flynn was unlucky not to connect with a superb ball fired in by Julie Doak. Excellent interplay between Laura Johnston and Jo Leatham in midfield allowed Garvey to yet again work their way into the circle, culminated by a Jenna Flynn shot saved by the Service keeper fifteen minutes in.

Lisnagarvey continued to press for goal, with Rose Montgomery narrowly missing the net after a well worked penalty corner. The forward line worked effortlessly to ensure Civil Service were kept in their own 25 leading up to the end of the first half, but the away side defended well and the score remained 0-0 at the half time whistle.

Garvey came out looking the stronger side in the second half and so it was no surprise that the in-form Julie Doak was to find the net five minutes in. A well-timed pass from Tamilla Matchett found Sarah Colgan on the attack, allowing her to slot the ball to Doak for a tight angled finish.

Superb attacking play by Eimear Faller saw the former Elks player beat two defenders before earning her team a penalty corner. Laura Johnston was unlucky not to score with her strike on goal, but Garvey continued to add pressure resulting in a successive corner won by Julie Doak. Consequently, the second half was to end as it began; with Doak firing home her second of the day after a slip pass from Rose Montgomery.

LISNAGARVEY L3S 2 GROSVENOR L2S 1

ON Saturday November 17, Lisnagarvey ladies 3rd XI entertained Grosvenor ladies at Comber Road.

Both teams started well with chances at both goals with Laura Howard hitting the post on more than one occasion. Claire Bloomfield eventually opened the scoring with a well struck penalty corner.

In the second half Sarah Wells took a quick free outside the circle and went on to score putting Garvey two up. In the final ten minutes a loss of concentration allowed the opposition to get one back. However the score ended 2-1 keeping Garvey at the top of the league.
