Fourths on wrong end of result against Quins Seconds

GARVEY Fourths played a top of the table clash with Harlequins Seconds and came out on the wrong side of a 2-1 result.

It was a close game but on the balance of play, particularly in the first half Harlequins deserve the victory.

The game was played at a breakneck pace for the first 20 minutes with Garvey struggling to get a foothold in the game. Harlequins played a sucession of good passes towards the top of the Garvey circle and from one of these, opened the scoring.

A good initial save by the excellent Graeme Shaw wasn’t enough as Harlequins scrambled the ball home after a flurry around the Garvey penalty spot.

Garvey ‘s game started to come together and after an

excellent interception in midfield by Ryan Getty and a slick pass to the returning Jack Wilson, Wilson was able to withstand two heavy challenges before sliding the ball under the goalkeepr for a well taken goal.

Garvey finished the first half in the ascendancy but chances were few and far between for both sides.

The second half was generally a closely fought affair but Harlequins had one phase of domination in which they scored the winning goal.

Garvey were unable to get the ball clear from their defensive third and eventually the ball fell kindly to a Harlequins forward who bundled it into the goal.

Neil Brazil in the Garvey goal made several excellent saves during this period to keep Garvey in the game. Garvey upped their tempo after the setback of conceding a goal and dominated the last 15 minutes with Harlequins resorting to thumping the ball off the far end of the pitch but their overall play shaded the game and they ended deserved winners.

This result still leaves Garvey second in the table with all to play for. Thanks to Mark Surgeon and Philip Duke for umpiring what was a competitive but good spirited encounter.
