On Saturday afternoon the Lisburn captain Roy Stewart congratulated John Boyd on winning a medal following his success in the Connacht Seniors inter-club championships. John only received the medal recently.

Playing for the Belmullet Club in County Mayo he travelled nearly 3,000 miles during the campaign. His nearest match was at Carrick on Shannon. After winning at the first tie hole, to send his team into the final, he had to make the 115 miles journey home. In the final he lost the away match at Tuam but won at home to force a 5–5 draw. There was great excitement as Belmullet won the cup for the first time at the first tie hole.
