Lisnagarvey Seconds progressed to the quarter final stage of the Irish Junior Cup with a decisive 6-1 over Kilkeel Seconds at Kilkeel ast Saturday.

This was the third game the two sides had played against each other inside eight days.

The previous Saturday, Garvey Seconds had won a tight match in Junior League 1 by 3 goals to 1 and on Wednesday they completed their last Junior League Cup game, again at Comber Road.

This time arvey won by 8 goals to 2 to give them a place in the play-offs for the trophy.

On Saturday, Garvey travelled to Kilkeel for the Irish Junior Cup match and after a slow start took themselves into a two nil lead with goals from Matthew Nelson and Greg Thompson but the home side struck back with a goal almost immediately.

Nelson scored again to give Garvey a 3-1 lead at the half time interval.

The second half saw the visitors well on top throughout adding three further goals to seal the tie.

The goals came from Matthew Nelson [2], Andrew O’Hare and skipper Philip Stirling, who could only have been pleased with his team’s performance in dire weather conditions at Kilkeel.

Elsewhere for Lisnagarvey, the Ladies Firsts lost at Queen’s. Stef McCullough and Laura Johnston with consolation goals in a 5-2 defeat.

The Ladies Seconds fought back at Muckross in the Irish Junior Cup, before losing on sudden death strokes.

A superb team goal finished off by Laura Wilson in the second half levelled the scores but sudden death penalties were to mark the end of the road for this season.

The Men’s Fifths won 3-2 in Portadown. A last hit of the game goal resulted in the win.

The U15 boys lost out against Annadale by a single goal in a friendly before the Men’s Firsts game.
