With the Irish Hockey League taking a five week break around the Christmas period, Garvey do not play their next IHL fixture until February against second placed Monkstown in Dublin.

This will be the crucial match of the 18 game programme as there is just four points between the two teams at the half way stage.

In the meantime the Club has received the draw for both the Irish Senior Cup and the Irish Junior Cup quarter finals.

The Ist XI play Railway Union at Park Avenue on Saturday 30th January while the Seconds are at home to Cork Church of Ireland on Saturday 23rd January.

Both draws are difficult especially the Senior division as Garvey found Railway a real problem in the recent I.H.L. match which they managed to win in the last second of a highly competitive game also in Dublin.

The Seconds are on a great run of form at the moment and will be buoyed by their win in the final of the Junior League 1 Cup against Banbridge over Christmas.

The match was won by 3 goals to nil and they should be too strong for a Cork Church of Ireland team when they come to Comber Road.

However, the last meeting between the team was far from straight forward with Garvey coming out on top after a struggle.

This Saturday the league programme restarts for the junior teams with Garvey Seconds taking on local rivals South Antrim in the Junior I match at Comber Road at 2.30pm while the Thirds play a very important match at Bangor knowing that points are at a premium for them as they have just 8 points, three ahead of Mossley and Newry but 7 clear of bottom placed Kilkeel. A win at Bangor would improve their situation greatly.
