Bowlers hold annual prize giving

Local bowlers held their annual dinner in Lisburn Masonic Hall on Friday night when prizes were presented to the winners in the Roy Kennedy Fuels Indoor Bowling League.

Ulster Star bowls correspondent, Harry Allen, thanked all those who had helped him throughout the season, particularly League secretary, Ruth Neely, in the manner in which she had attended to her duties.

He also said thanks to Zone convenor, Tom Haire and all other office bearers. He then gave a light hearted run-down on the past season in the League.

League chairman, Gary Laverty, asked League sponsor, Roy Kennedy, to present the prizes and he also thanked the caterers, Hilltop Catering for an excellent meal and Lisburn Masonic for the use of their hall.

Flowers and gifts were presented to various people

Where the trophies went: Section A: 1, Ballinderry; 2, Hillsborough Social; Section B: 1, Derriaghy; 2, Hilden; Section C: 1, St Colman’s Lambeg; 2, Suffolk.

Charity finals

The date has been set for the Lisburn Zone Charity Cup and Rosebowl finals, which will both be played at St Paul’s Parish Hall on Tuesday, April 5, 7.15pm.

The Cup final will feature Ballinderry against Hillsborough Social or Soldierstown, and this remaining semi-final may not be played until April 4. The Rosebowl decider will be Aghagallon vs Rock.

The sponsors are Denis Wilson, Glenavy and Hyde Air Park, Crumlin. The two charities to benefit this year are Lisburn Women’s Aid and Parents for Opportunities.

Dates set for Zone and League meetings

The dates have been set for both Lisburn Zone and the Roy Kennedy Fuels Indoor Bowling League annual meetings.

The League annual meeting will be held in Eglantine Parish Hall on Wednesday, April 6 at 8pm.

The Zone meeting will be held in Derriaghy Parish Hall on Monday April 11 at 8pm.

It is hoped all clubs will be represented at these two important meetings and that there will be a large attendance on both occasions.

St John’s Moira Singles Tournament

The St John’s Moira Indoor Bowling Club Open Singles Tournament will be held in the Parish Centre, Moira for the R. J. Allam Perpetual Challenge Cup.

The nights of play are Tuesday, March 29 till Friday, April 1 with the finals on Saturday, April 2.

The closing date for receipt of entries is Monday, March 28 and a fee of £4 is payable for each entry.

Each game will consist of nine ends and play will commence each evening at 7pm.

Tournament coming up

The Annual Open Pairs Tournament organised by Annahilt Parish Indoor Bowling Club will start after Easter.

It starts on Tuesday, April 5 and continues from Wednesday, April 6 to Friday, April 8 with the finals on Saturday night, April 9.

Play will commence at 7pm each evening and the entry fee is £5 per pair.
