Mayor shows support for local Boxing academy

LISBURN Mayor, Alderman William Leathem, recently paid a visit to Canal Boxing Academy this week where he viewed recent improvements to the club and to wish Kurt Walker the best of luck ahead of the forthcoming World Championships in Armenia.

Kurt is six times 52kg All Ireland Champion, he will try to emulate his clubmate Jason McKay, who returned from Bulgaria with a European Silver medal. McKay, 48kg and five times Irish Champion, was pipped at the post by a Russian boxer for Gold.

Canal are also celebrating after Robbie Gilmore 85kg and Thomas Dundon 75kg both won Gold at the recent Ulster Novices in Tyholland, Co. Monaghan.

Club President Barry McGuigan says the hard work from the coaches and the support from the people of Lisburn has turned Canal into one of the best up and coming boxing club’s in the country.
