Locals invited to get running at Family 5K series

Local people are being urged to get running when the Subway Helping Hearts Family 5K series returns for its fourth year.

Subway, along with national charity Heart Research UK will bring their run to Ormeau Park on 7th August, where families can join in the fun.

All ages and levels of running expertise are invited to participate.

The 5K series takes a twist on the traditional 5K by including the “Field of Fresh” challenge for the last 500m before the finish line.

Participants are encouraged to tackle the giant inflatable course, inspired by the Subway menu, which has been designed to appeal to kids (and big kids!).

Those not wishing to bounce through to the finish line can follow the traditional 5K route.

The family fun doesn’t just end with that last 500m; families can also relax in the Family Village open from 10:30am – 2pm.

This Family Village includes face-painting, music, more inflatable fun for children, and games for the whole family to enjoy.

Whilst Ulster and Ireland rugby star Tommy Bowe will also be there on the day to interact with the crowds.

Children under 12 years old can participate for free, and it’s just £7 for all other participants that register in advance online.

All participants will receive a free T-Shirt, a free Subway lunch, a finisher’s medal and access to the Family Village.

All funds raised will be donated directly to Heart Research UK and the Subway Healthy Heart grant scheme, an initiative providing up to £10,000 to local projects that actively promote heart health in the community.

Lucy Dee, National Marketing Director for the Subway brand in Europe said: “We are building on the success of last year’s series and hope to encourage even more people to sign up this year and show their support for heart healthy causes in their local area.
