Distillery, coming off the back of an encouraging display on Monday night against Irish Cup holders Glenavon, started brightly with Tommy Kincaid’s side almost opening the scoring on fifteen minutes as a rasping shot by Artur Kopyt was spectacularly saved by Rec ‘keeper Conan Russell.

Russell kept the game a stalemate again on eighteen minutes after further Whites pressure and slick passing saw Martin Jones on the end of Bingham’s cross, Jones’ flick being well kept out by the teenager in the Kilmore goal.

The boys from Robert Adams Park started to settle and it was clear to see the way they set up was for playing five at the back and aiming to hit the championship one side on the counter attack and with the rain starting to lash down and a greasy pitch to contend with the sides found themselves levelling out.

It was visiting ‘keeper Russell who once made a fantastic save to deny Robbie White from getting his first goal for the club as he was denied by the legs of the young shot stopper but then the Whites had the perfect chance to go ahead after Darren Smith was brought down in the box and the referee had no option but to point to the spot. Up stepped White but again it wasn’t to be, his penalty saved by the impressive keeper.

Whites manager Tommy Kincaid made the first change of the game at half-time bringing off Joe McDonell and replacing him with Ryan Corrigan.

Robbie White had another superb chance to put the Whites ahead as he somehow missed a sitter after Bingham’s cross into the centre of the box found him in the clear but somehow he managed to drag the ball wide instead of into the goal.

Lisburn Distillery finally got the breakthrough on 72 minutes as Martin Jones ran through to round Russell and fire into the bottom corner of the open net to give the homes fans a deep breath of relief. William Bingham had the perfect chance to wrap up the game only for his shot to be well saved by Russell.

Stephen Doyle then also had a great chance to make it Two-Nil as he nutmegged Peter Casey but his shot deflected wide of Russell’s post before eventually Jones did make it two as he scored his second, sealing Distillery’s place in the third round of the 2014/15 Steel and Sons Cup.
