U12s close in on another league title

After victory over a spirited Greenisland at Glenmore on Saturday, the U12s know that three wins in their remaining five fixtures guarantees them their third successive title.

The line up was shuffled with Tyler Bain continuing in centre-half for the absent Jameson and Kelly while Kristian Taylor was given a run out in midfield.

Youth were on the front foot for the majority of the game but credit is due to Greenisland who continued to work hard and always tried to pass the ball.

The breakthrough came relatively early in the half as Ross Hunter finished clinically from the edge of the area.

It was soon 2-0 as Hunter again found the net, this time from the penalty spot. On a difficult pitch, the boys continued to pass the ball and create openings through wide men Kyle Moore and Oisin Barr. Devlin and Taylor were both in the engine room of the team and importantly were getting themselves first to the ball and spraying it wide.

The third came from a corner kick as Oisin Barr met the cross with a great front post header from 10 yards and it would be 4-0 at the interval with Kyle Moore, in an advanced left midfield role, firing home under the keeper.

Changes were made but the second half continued in the same fashion with Youth on the attack.

Adam Donnelly came on at half-time and got his name on the score-sheet meeting a great cross from Barr for his 101st club goal. He would go on to make it 103 club goals with two more on the day to complete his hat-trick.

His second came after good work down the left beating a few defenders before his shot went in off the defender. His hat-trick goal came as he smacked a Greenisland clearance from the edge of the area low into the corner.

The final goal of the day went to Justin Devlin. He beat an opposing player before netting from outside the area.

Youth were solid at the back with Bain and Mitchell not putting a foot wrong while Hunter, Faulkner and Barr led the attacking threat.
