THE IFA/DENI Primary Sports Programme continues to support foundation and Key Stage 1 pupils and teachers throughout Northern Ireland.

The success of the programme has seen many schools keen to get involved, with local schools this year including Killowen, Ballinderry, Rowandale Integrated, Moira, Downshire, Brownlee, McKinney and Pond Park.

The programme focuses on developing the generic physical literacy skills of our youngest pupils and also supports teachers in the delivery of Physical Education.

A new initiative within the programme has seen the IFA Primary School Coaches select a ‘Player of the Term’ from each class.

The individual prizes this term consisted of an Umbro drinking bottle, an IFA pencil and eraser, and certificate.

Local IFA Coach Justin Sheppard explained that pupils are chosen for a range of different reasons including demonstrating good talking and listening skills, significant improvement in skill levels, consistent fair-play, and ability to work effectively in teams.
