Nine’s fine for SERC as they smash their way past Erne to set up tie against ex schools’ champions

SERC FC continued their winning streak in the second round of Inspire Sport U18 NI Schools Cup by ruthlessly dismantling a below-par Erne Integrated College on a score-line of 9 (nine) - 0.

Chris Ferguson was once again man of the match producing a five star performance with five splendid goals.

The pick of those was his third, when he pounced on a defensive mistake and coolly lobbed the visiting keeper, David Beckham style, from almost at the halfway line.

It was a real peach but he wasn’t content to leave it at a hat-trick.

Ferguson went on to score four in a dominant first half. The other first half goal came courtesy of an OG despite winger Dean Farr trying to claim it.

The second half didn’t fare much better for the travelling team, and following four substitutions, they found themselves 6-0 down when striker Chris Treacy slotted the ball home.

Further goals came from Cieran Clougherty (direct from a corner) and centre half Tighearnan Omeallaigh, who waltzed through the Erne defence and smashed an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net, to send the home fans into raptures.

Fittingly, Ferguson completed the nine goal rout with his fifth late in the second half and went off to deserved applause from the SERC FC faithful.

SERC FC now meet a much more difficult opponent in Round Three in the form of previous Schools Cup winners St Columb’s College, Derry/Londonderry.
