Nine man Whites lose

It’s always unfortunate when officialdom grabs the headlines from a game but sadly this was the case at New Grosvenor on Saturday, where Ards took a 3-1 win over Lisburn Distillery.

A game, which was much anticipated, ended with both sides playing without their full complement of players as no less than three players were ordered to take an early bath.

As for the football there was little to choose between the sides, certainly in the first half at least, as the hosts took the lead on 11 minutes when some great work by the impressive Marty Jones saw the diminutive striker pick the ball up just inside the Ards penalty area before driving home a sweet shot giving the visiting ‘keeper McKibbin no chance.

The Whites joy however was to be short lived as only three minutes later the sides were level again as former player Owain Beggs was on hand to nod home unmarked from a corner.

Ards took the lead on 67 minutes when Convery found space and was able to head down into the path of Beggs who comfortably picked his spot before slotting home.

With Ards awarded a penalty, the referee issued two straight red cards to Doyle and Keiran O’Connor for dissent. Cully converted to make it 3-1. Ards were reduced to ten men after Faulkner was sent off with two minutes to play.
