Ballymacash YM II 1 aet

With three minutes left of extra time in the Ironside Cup quarter final between Ballymacash YM III and their own Seconds it was Colin Mack who stepped up to slot home the winner for the Thirds.

The veteran has scored several important goals in his lengthy career, but this one to him was just as important as any other.

The Seconds were having a second attempt at progressing in the Cup after losing 10-0 to their Firsts in the second round.

It was found that the Firsts played an ineligible player and the Cup holders were dismissed with the Seconds being re-instated.

It appeared they would take advantage of the situation when Gareth Shirlow put them ahead and the Seconds were certainly in control.

But Ryan Gregory stepped to to convert a penalty and, possibly a little fortunately the Thirds were back in the fight.

Extra time was a hard fought affair and with only three minutes left Mack grabbed that vital winner.

There was little chat from either camp, but it would appear the Thirds did not really deserve the win, but they got it in the end.

Next week’s match will be Glaston and Sandy Row.
