Lisburn Rangers Youth

An early morning kick off for Lisburn Rangers Youth at Glenmore brought a great performance against a lacklustre Lisburn Distillery.

The Youth showed their intentions from the start with a desire to win every ball and it wasn’t long before the ball was in the Distillery net when Kurtis Gillespie slotted a low drive past the keeper.

A second was soon to come when Josh McMaster headed home from a corner and the Youth team were now in total control.

Lee Hutton added to his tally with a nice chip over the keeper making it 3-0. The football was a pleasure to watch with everybody comfortable on the ball and working hard for the team.

The fourth goal showed this when Thomas Burns and Lee Hutton worked of each other from midfield with Thomas finishing the move, a brilliant goal.

Kurtis Gillespie got his second of the game just before half time ending the half with a deserved five goal lead.

The football in the second half didn’t flow just as well but the Youth were always on top with Distillery reduced to long range efforts. The one clear chance Distillery had goal keeper Alister Taggart was up to the task and made a fine save turning the ball past the post.

Four more goals followed with Thomas, Josh and Lee all doubling their tally and Drew Dumbar who came off the bench to score yet again. The game finished 9-0 and sets the Youth up for next Saturday’s Shield semi final at Stanley Park.

Lisburn Rangers Panthers

This weekend the Panthers got it right when they took on Willowbank.

After 10 minutes of playing, Conal Cunningham started a firework of goals. A long ball from defense playing Michael Helmcke was picked up by Conal and left the Willowbank goal keeper with no chance.

Only five minutes later Conal scored again after a free kick. But now Willowbank woke up and started to play and scored a great header. From now on the goals were coming in on both sides.

For the Panthers Michael Collim scored after a clever assist from Jude Graham. But Willowbank was able to trick the Panthers defence only minutes later and scored the last goal of the first half.

The second half started badly for the Panthers. Willowbank scored twice taking a 4-3 lead. But the Panthers were not finished. Again, Conal Cunningham started the chain reaction of goals after a corner turning the result to 4-4. Only five minutes left to play was enough for the Panthers to score two more goals.

Dillan Duff put the Panthers back in the lead and Jack Bonar scored his second goal in his second match for the Panthers in the very last second of the match. Winning this match 6-4 was a great success for the Panthers even so it was just a friendly.

Aghalee Village

Newmills FC 2 Aghalee Village FC 4

A stunning hat-trick from Aghalee’s own Aguero - leading goal scorer Davy Costello - kept Aghalee Village top of their division and stretched their winning run to nine games in a row.

With a couple of unexpected and forced changes to the team, Aghalee needed to be at their best to overcome last season’s divisional cup winners Newmills on their own turf and at their best they were.

The game started off at a high tempo as both teams attempted to gain an early advantage. It was Aghalee who made the breakthrough on 17 minutes as the increasingly talismanic Davy Costello tucked in from a sumptuous Paddy Reilly cross to make it 1-0.

The next chance came when Aghalee won a free kick to the left of goal about 25 yards out. Conor Gaskin stepped up and struck the sweetest free-kick of the year to make it 2-0 as the ball nestled as close to the top corner as one could have hoped.

Ten minutes before half time Costello struck again to make it look a very comfortable first half for Aghalee.

Newmills started the second half well but Aghalee defended resolutely and pressed for a fourth. It was Newmills however who would get the next goal as their attacker read a usually reliable cushioned header from Diamond back to McCoo and stole in to make it 3-1. Kris Wilson battled and would not give Newmill’s defenders a seconds rest as he won the ball and fashioned a chance for himself, the keeper made a great save only for the ball to fall to Davy ‘The Hat trick’ Costello who finished neatly for his second hat trick in 7 days and third of the season. Newmills then got a consolation at the end but Aghalee came out on top to win the game 4-2.

This Saturday Aghalee Village are at home to Orchard Athletic. All supporters welcome to Aghalee Playing Fields.
