Lisburn Rangers

A wake up call for the Youth Team, that’s what was needed in a hard fought game against Hillsborough.

Hide Ad

The boys had a poor start with Hillsborough taking the lead after some sloppy play at the back.

Hillsborough took advantage of a Youth team that just hadn’t started and added a second, Lisburn were on the ropes and Hillsborough knew it but couldn’t add to their lead, the Youth Team were fortunate to be only two down at half time.

Coaches Colin and Brian Hamill sent the boys out with a different mindset and it was clear to see with a goal almost coming in the first minute.

The feeling was that this game could still be saved, it would only take a goal to change things and what a goal from Thomas Burns slamming an over head kick in to the back of the net with perfect technique.

The flood gates opened up with goals from Kurtis Gillespie and Josh McMaster, within ten minutes the boys took the lead, Hillsborough were deflated and never looked like coming back against an unrecognisable Youth Team.

Callum Parker added a fourth and two more from Lee Hutton and this game was over.

It was a great come back but the boys must learn from the first half performance if they want to progress as a team and as a last thought we may have seen the goal of the season.

Lisburn Panthers

LRFC Panthers played Castle Colts on Sunday November 23 at Aurora Leisure Centre, Bangor.

As so often, the Lisburn Panthers were not fully awake during the first half of the match.

Within five minutes of playing the Panthers were two goals down.

It took almost 20 minutes before the Panthers put together some nice combinations through the midfield, witch put Noah Perry in the position to score the first goal for the Panthers.

But the lack of concentration left the goal wide open for the Colts to score the third goal just a minute later.

The second half started with another early goal for the Colts after a free kick.

The hard working Conal Cunningham on the left forward position tried his best to get the ball in front of the goal.

This happened half way through the second half and Jack Bonar was there to pick up the great assist and scored the second goal for the Panthers.

But only a minute later a defender lost the ball in front of his own goal and invited the Colts to score for the fifth time.

A penalty kick for the Panthers, kicked by Dillan Duff, at the end of the match turned the result to 5-3 for the Colts.

A disappointing result for the Panthers, as they had some very hard working players and good ideas.

Wee Whites

The Under 9’s played one of their best matches in their final match before the winter break last weekend.

Goals came from Brandon Wright and a screamer from 30 yards from Reece Taggart. Sunday was also a silent sideline day and the boys received no help from their parents or coaches from the sideline and proved how far they have come as a group from the start of the development programme. Coach Ryan Menary would like to thank all boys and parents for the their support.
